As a democratic and open organisation we are justifiably proud of our inclusive constitution and we reproduce it here to indicate to everyone our commitment to equality of opportunity for all.
We developed our original constitution back in 2002 when we formed as a group, and were proud that we had a strong and robust guiding document in place. However, in 2007 Sandwell Council embarked upon a consultation process with all local tenants & residents groups and partner organisation's across Sandwell to ensure all such groups had an up to date constitution.
As part of this consultation process our Committee arranged a series of one-off meetings to discuss our own document and the proposals that were being put forward through the local Arms Length Management Organisation (ALMO), Sandwell Homes. This proved to be a highly worthwhile piece of work and gave us an opportunity to update our constitution and take into account updates in policies and legislation that had occurred since 2002. The result of this hard work has been the development of an even more robust document, especially around key areas such as the adoption of a new Equal Opportunities Policy and procedures for legally dissolving the Association should we so wish.
We would therefore encourage other groups such as our own to periodically return to their own key documents to ensure they remain relevant and as up to date as can be realistically possible.
Please feel free to incorporate any of the ideas etc you find in our document into your own constitutions should you so wish. Please do be aware however, that such materials included here are for information only and the Association will not be held responsible as a result of any difficulties groups might incur as a direct or indirect result of the incorporation of such materials.
